Study Psychologist

Do you feel stuck with your studies? The study psychologists are available to all bachelor and master degree students at Åbo Akademi University. You are welcome to make an appointment when you need support regarding study skills, learning, setting goals, motivation, time management, learning difficulties, stress, difficulties with you dissertation, and other questions which are related to your studies.

If you are experiencing other difficulties in life, such as depression, anxiety, crisis, panic attacks, eating disorders, relationship problems, if you have gotten almost no study points in a long time, or if you have other difficulties that affect your ability to study, you can contact the Finnish Student Health Service in Åbo (http://www.yths.fi/en/contact_details/units/turku) or Vasa (http://www.yths.fi/en/contact_details/units/vaasa) directly.

The study psychologists are also available for consultation by teachers and other staff.

What happens during an appointment?

During the first appointment the study psychologist will try to get an overview of your situation to ensure that you have come to the right place and that you get the service you need. The conversation with the psychologist is a form of cooperation where we together try to find solutions for you to progress in your studies. Examples of goals might be to find new ways to study and learn, or to change patterns of thought or behavior. Between appointments you are sometimes expected to do some work on your own in order to bring about necessary changes in your life.

Generally you will meet with the study psychologist a maximum of five times in total. The visits are without cost and the psychologist is obliged to observe professional secrecy.
