Research in Economics at Åbo Akademi University is conducted primarily in the fields of labour market economics, health economics, and industrial organisation, which are related to public economy and welfare.

Research in labour market economics is mostly empirical, with a focus on the effects of human capital on economic outcomes, entrepreneurship, education finances, family finances and labour market discrimination.

Research in the field health economics focuses on the relationship between health, health behaviour, and labour economics prosperity.

Research in the field of industrial organisation is mostly theoretical and oriented towards competition, public and private assets, economic incentives and internal motivation in different types of organisations, as well as economic reforms related to the new public management.
