Financing your exchange
All degree students who are granted an exchange place via Åbo Akademi University are granted a scholarship, as long as they apply for it in SoleGrant (via SoleMove)
If Åbo Akademi University grants a student an exchange placement, the student is automatically eligible for a scholarship. To receive the scholarship, you must follow these instructions:
- Accept the placement in SoleMove once we have contacted you.
- Complete the SoleGrant application by May 31 if you are going on an exchange in the autumn; if you are going during the spring semester, the deadline is October 31.
- Register your attendance at Åbo Akademi University well in advance.

How should i fill in the SoleGrant application?
- Log in to SoleMove: saas.solenovo.fi/solemove/
- Open SoleGrant – The icon in the bar at the top of the page
- Click “Create new application” – there is only one choice
- Personal Data tab – Check the data is correct
- A permanent address refers to a permanent address you have in Finland—either your own or your parents’. This is required for the payment of your scholarship.
- Exchange/placement information tab – you must correct your actual exchange period. The dates currently listed are pulled from your original exchange application; at this stage, you likely have a more accurate picture of what the actual dates will be. If you are receiving an Erasmus+ scholarship, please be especially careful with these dates. If the information you provide is significantly incorrect, you might be required to repay part of the scholarship after your exchange (since the scholarship is calculated based on the actual number of days spent on exchange, rather than by full months)—and that wouldn’t be pleasant for you or for us!
- TIPS!
- Check the universities website for “academic calendar”. You can write similar dates from the previous year.
- Read feedback from students who have been on an exchange to the place you are heading to. They often mention the dates they were there during that same semester.
- TIPS!
- Grant Information tab – read the instructions in SoleGrant and here on this page.
- Select the grant that applies to your exchange studies.
- You do not need to enter an amount; simply click “Calculate.” If that does not work, you can find the amounts on this page.
- Also, select the “Purpose of the grant.” There is only one option available.
- Enter your bank details carefully (IBAN and BIC only).
- Read through the grant terms and conditions carefully and ensure that you have checked all the boxes (two in total) to provide your consent.
- Verify that the date matches the one on the previous tab.
- Enclosures tab – you do not need to upload any documents to the application.
- Submit the form for processing under the “acceptance” tab.
Grant Certificate as Proof
Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email notification, and the awarded grant will appear under the “Decisions” tab.
To download the certificate confirming the decision, go to your application and click “Grant certificate” at the top of the application page.
Other external scholarships
In addition, there is the Swedish Student Fund (studiefonden.fi) from which everyone who study in Swedish can apply for scholarships.
If you are going to the US, we also recommend applying from Fulbright Finland (www.fulbright.fi/grant-programs-us) and Suomi-American Yhdistysten Liitto (samsuomi.fi/apurahat/)
Keep in mind Åbo Akademis scholarship for students as well as www.fyrk.fi!
