Major subject – Industrial Management

Industrial Management combines technology and economics. Education and research in the subject focus on business administration and entrepreneurship in industry, thus making you an expert in business models, industrial business management and industrial investment. A specific area of focus is to create business models and organisational structures for investments in the energy and transportation industry.

Students in the Master’s Degree Programme in Chemical and Process Engineering may write their Master’s thesis in Industrial Management, but our courses are open to all students at Åbo Akademi University. The subject also offers a thematic module that can be included in a Master’s degree programme. The courses consist of group work and case studies that are closely linked to topical issues in industry. In addition to this, presentations and analyses of industrial companies are a key part of the courses, in which business executives offer an invaluable extra dimension. Leading experts in industrial economics participate in teaching, thus ensuring that the instruction content is interesting and topical.

Research in Industrial Management focuses on industrial investments and project activities in energy and transportation. The research theme includes industrial logic, technology commercialisation, boundary-breaking business models, project management, systems integration, functional solutions and governance models. The laboratory plays a key role within the research areas at both the national and international level.
