Take part in Åbo Akademi University’s mentorship program

Since May 2022 Åbo Akademi University has organized the mentorship program CareerContact for international master’s students at ÅAU. The aim of the program is to help the students learn more about Finnish working life and work culture, expand their networks and identify their strengths with the help of a mentor.

During last year’s mentorship program Daniel Valtakari and Shujun Liang became a mentor-student pair, and they were both positively surprised by the experience.

Daniel Valtakari and Shujun Liang took part in the mentorship program in 2022.

“Daniel has been a really good mentor. He has always encouraged me and helped me to feel more confident”, Liang says. “I have gained a lot of cultural knowledge and received help in planning my career.”

According to Valtakari, being a mentor has felt meaningful. “I wanted to give Shujun enough information so she can see what doors there are to be opened. It feels nice to know that I have played a small part in her personal journey and future success.”

We are now looking for mentors for the next mentorship period that will start in April 2023. The only requirements for becoming a mentor are that you are established in the Finnish working life, have a good command of English and the possibility to meet with the student approximately once a month. ÅAU will provide support throughout the mentorship program e.g. by arranging joint mentor pair meetings. If you are interested in becoming a mentor and supporting young people in the beginning of their careers in Finland, please fill in the application form no later than 12 February.
