When you return

When you return

Experiencing shock when you return home is very common. You have experienced a lot during your exchange studies, and everything is the same at home. But you readapt to life at home after a while!

Registering study credits

You will receive credits at Åbo Akademi for the studies that you have conducted whilst abroad. You are responsible for applying for those courses to be counted and registered. Submit a copy of your foreign Transcript of Records, and the course descriptions of the courses you have studied together with the form for credit transfer to the subject/academic coordinator or the faculty office, as soon as possible after your exchange is complete.

If you have not previously agreed on getting credited with credits of completed language courses with the Language Centre before the exchange, these will usually not be counted for. Contact International Affairs if you experience problems with registering your credits to be transferred at Åbo Akademi.

You will receive the rest of your grant (the final 20%) when you have completed the following steps:

Erasmus+ students:

  1. Log in to Solemove, and open the tab After exchange in your application. Fill out all requested information, and upload your ”Erasmus+ Certificate of attendance”. The end date is supposed to be the same date as the last date of your studies at the host university. You have to be precise with the dates: they have to be the same as the info in your Erasmus+ certificate of attendance! In the same tab you should fill out the total amount of credits you acquired during your exchange, and in what language you studied. Please note that your credits should be accredited at ÅAU before you can submit this info (because a Transcript of Records from Peppi should be attached). Fill out all the requested info in that tab, and Save/Send.
  2. Fill out the feedback form in SoleMOVE (under the tab Feedback in your application, that may be published and gives valuable information to all future exchange students.
  3. Fill out the survey “Erasmus+ individual participant report request”, that has been sent by e-mail from the EU.
  4. Please let Harriet Klåvus know when everything is done.

Bilateral/Nordplus students:

  1. Log in to SoleMOVE, and open the tab After exchange in your application. Fill out the requested info, and attach a Transcript of Records (from Peppi) with the accredited credits from your exchange.
  2. Fill out the feedback form in SoleMOVE (under the tab Feedback in your application), that may be published and gives valuable information to all future exchange students.
  3. Please let the person at International affairs who helped you with your application know when this is done.

Volunteer as a tutor or for our information sessions!

By becoming a tutor you can continue your international career even after returning home. Please check your emails from the Tutor Coordinator and the Student Union for information as to when you can apply for tutoring (often in October and February).

We also hope that you will volunteer for us and inform ÅA students who want to go abroad, both at unofficial events and during the information sessions organized by International Affairs several times per year. Your expert knowledge is greatly appreciated among outgoing students who plan on going to the same host country. It can also be fun for you to talk about this special time you have experienced.

You can also continue to be a member of the Facebook group that exists for ÅA’s exchange students abroad, and tell us about your experiences in the particular country where you were.
