Request for re-entry into the student register

If you have not enrolled as present or absent for the academic year before deadline, you need to apply for re-entry into the student register. By applying for re-entry into the student register, you can be enrolled as absent or present after the enrollment deadline.

The fee for re-entry is 35 euro. Bachelor and master students must also pay the Student Union membership fee in addition to this. If you have not been registered for more than one academic year in a row, your application for re-entry is handled by the faculty office (for bachelor and master students) or research services (for doctoral students). In this case you must attach a study plan or research plan to your application.

NB! In order to send in your application you must click the “Spara bilagor” (Save attachments) button, even if you do not need to provide any attachments.

You will be sent the decision via e-mail or by post, of whether your application has been approved or denied. If your application has been approved, you will receive payment instructions for the re-entry fee of 35 euro, as well as instructions for the Student Union membership fee (which is mandatory for bachelor and master students to pay).

Request for re-entry into the student register step-by-step:

  • Request for re-entry when you have missed the annual enrollment and wish to register as present or absent for the current academic year.
  • In order to be re-entered into the student register you need to have study time left.
  • If you are unsure about how much study time you have left, contact studinfo@abo.fi.
  • If you do not have study time left, you need to apply for a study time extension before you can be re-entered.
  • If you have not been registered for more than one academic year in a row, contact your study advisors to make a study plan or be in contact with research services to make a research plan.
  • You do not need to make a study plan or research plan if you missed deadline for annual enrollment and you were enrolled as absent or present the previous semester.
  • Fill in the request for re-entry. Remember to use an e-mail address that you have access to and please make sure that your inbox can receive e-mails.

  • Wait for your request to be processed by the student service desk. The processing time is a bit longer at the start of semesters, since there is many requests for re-entry submitted during that time.
  • If you have not been registered for more than one academic year in a row, your application for re-entry is handled by the faculty office or research services. The processing time is therefore longer.
  • When your request for re-entry has been processed and approved, we will contact you with information on how to pay the re-entry fee of 35€ and the student union fee for students on bachelor’s or master’s level. The student union fee is optional for research students.
  • Follow the instructions you get in the reply email to your request for re-entry.
  • Usually it takes a couple of working days to a couple of working weeks from when you fill out the form for re-entry until you are registered as present or absent.
  • You can activate your ÅAU-username after you have gotten a confirmation that you have been reentered into the study register.

The rule for re-entry into the student register applies both to bachelor, master and graduate students. The Government decree on fees for university services (1082/2009).
