The PBI Prize 2025 awarded to publication on sustainability in maritime leadership
The prize, presented in collaboration with Åbo Akademi University, this year goes to Eini Haaja and Riikka Harikkala-Laihinen. The PBI Prize is an annual scientific award recognizing outstanding research in management and organization studies.
The prize is awarded annually to recognize high-quality, peer-reviewed research in management and organizational studies. Each year, the Foundation highlights a specific theme, and the award is given to the most outstanding recent publication addressing that theme.
Eligible authors are affiliated with Åbo Akademi University, the University of Turku, or other Turku-based research institutes.
The winning publication, “Emotions in sustainability advancement: Multiactor experiences of the ongoing green transition”, in the Journal of Cleaner Production, was selected for its exceptional contribution to advancing knowledge in management research and organization studies in the maritime, energy and infrastructure industries with a focus on sustainability. The jury highlighted the work’s societal impact, theoretical innovation, practical relevance and scientific rigidness as reasons for the award.

“The PBI Prize celebrates publications that not only deepens academic understanding but also addresses urgent societal and industrial challenges. This year’s winner embodies both qualities, and we are delighted to honor their achievement,” says professor Kim Wikström, CEO of the Foundation and professor of Industrial management at Åbo Akademi University.
The PBI Prize includes a €5,000 award and is presented in collaboration with Åbo Akademi University. The PBI Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes scientific research in management and organization, with a particular emphasis on international project activities.
