Students ended the demonstration in Aurum

The students at Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku have ended the demonstration in Aurum.

By demonstrating, the students wanted to show their opposition to the government’s immigration policy and the planned cuts to student financial aid.

The rectors of the universities had given the students their support in organising the demonstration and also granted the students permission to stay overnight in Aurum on the condition that the demonstration would be peaceful and not disrupt other activities in the building.

The management of the universities and student unions organised several discussion meetings for the demonstrators where issues raised by the students were discussed. The students also submitted a petition in support of the demonstration to representatives of the universities and student unions.

The students started their demonstration in Aurum, the joint building of Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku, on 20 September 2023. It ended on 12 October 2023.
