Michael Cochez appointed new Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Åbo Akademi University
Dr. Michael Cochez has been appointed PS Fellow and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Åbo Akademi University. Cochez is an internationally recognized researcher in machine learning and knowledge graphs.

Cochez was recruited through the newly established ELLIS Institute Finland, where he is one of nine distinguished researchers chosen in an international selection process.
“It’s an exciting time for AI research in Finland, and we are honored to welcome Michael Cochez as Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Åbo Akademi University. A leading scholar in machine learning and knowledge graphs, Professor Cochez will further strengthen Åbo Akademi Univerity’s research profile and foster new projects and collaborations that will benefit the Turku region, Finnish industry, and society at large, says Ivan Porres Paltor, Professor of Computer Engineering.
Cochez joins Åbo Akademi University from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he has worked as an Assistant Professor. His research focuses on knowledge graphs, scalable hierarchical clustering, ontologies, and knowledge evolution.
ELLIS Institute Finland is a newly established research center in artificial intelligence and machine learning. It is part of the pan-European ELLIS network (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems), which brings together leading research and promotes collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
The professorship is supported by Foundation PS, founded by Åbo Akademi University alumnus Peter Sarlin, which promotes international excellence in AI research in Finland.
