Presenter guidelines
Sessions
- In each session, the chair (a member of the organizing committee) will open and close the session and introduce each presenter briefly.
- Each presenter has 15 minutes for their talk, followed by a few minutes for questions from the audience.
- The rooms are equipped with a projector, screen, PA, and internet.
- Please send your presentation slides in advance to sjohistoriska@abo.fi by 12:00 on September 28.
- If the file is too large to send via email, you can send it via WeTransfer, Funet FileSender, Google Drive, or other cloud service.
- We will upload the slides onto the venue computer (PC) in advance to make sure everything runs smoothly during the event.
- If you need to use your own laptop for showing your slides, please let us know in advance by September 28.
Publications
Zenodo
We offer all symposium participants the opportunity to publish their research on Zenodo, either as extended abstracts or as preprints. Participants wishing to publish an extended abstract on Zenodo are encouraged to follow these steps:
- Create an ORCID iD: https://info.orcid.org/researchers/
(Not mandatory but recommended.)
- Create a Zenodo account at https://zenodo.org/ using your ORCID iD or e-mail.
- Visit the Maritime Institute community on Zenodo: https://zenodo.org/communities/sjohistoriskainstitutet/
- Upload your abstract and fill in the required information. In the “Recommended information” field, please use 3–5 keywords that describe your text. Include both broader and more specific keywords. Words already appearing in the title do not need to be repeated.
- Please remember that copyright may limit what you are allowed to upload. For material (e.g., text, images, tables) for which you hold the copyright, you are free to choose the license yourself. CC BY is recommended for maximum dissemination, but more restrictive licenses may be used if necessary. More information about Creative Commons licenses.
If you choose to publish completed manuscripts as preprints on Zenodo, we would like to emphasize that there may be a risk that some academic journals will decline to publish an article if it has already been made openly available through Zenodo. If this is not a concern for you, we would be pleased to have your manuscript shared within our community. Here are some guidelines.
Publications of the Maritime Institute at Åbo Akademi
There will also be an opportunity for selected participants to publish in the peer-reviewed volume of the series Meddelanden från Sjöhistoriska institutet vid Åbo Akademi (Publications of the Maritime Institute at Åbo Akademi), which is included in the national classification system (Jufo 1). The organizers will contact those who are selected for publication directly.
