DemSwed

The ÅAU Center of Excellence project DemSwed aims at examining demographical change and the consequences of the changes, using register data that cover several generations.

The project focuses on the Swedish-speaking population in Finland. Our researchers analyse how families with mixed languages register their children’s mother tongue, and, how individuals from a mixed language background fare in terms of demographic and socioeconomic outcomes.

The project DemSwed (Demographic change and ethnolinguistic identity in an intergenerational perspective: The Swedish‐speaking population in Finland) is led by Jan Saarela, Professor in Demography with Statistics, especially the Demography of the Swedish-speaking population in Finland.
