Open online courses – MOOCs

This page features all MOOCs currently offered by Åbo Akademi University. MOOCs – Massive Open Online Course – are open for all and fully available online.

MOOCs are open online courses that anyone can attend. There are no entry requirements for the courses, but some prior knowledge may be recommended. The MOOCs are distance courses, i.e. they can be carried out entirely online. The courses often allow you to start whenever you want during a certain period of time and deadlines are flexible.

Attending a MOOC is free, but if you want a certificate or registration of credits for completed coursework, you pay the Open University’s administrative fee, 30 euros (the fee does not apply to ÅAU’s enrolled undergraduate and doctoral students).

Courses arranged by FiTech have a different system for registration of credits, this applies to the course “Introduktion till informationsteknologi”, that is in Swedish.

The MOOC is provided in a cooperation between Hanken School of Economics, Åbo Akademi University, Novia University of Applied Sciences, University of Vaasa and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, VAMK.

From Ideas to Innovations – Business Essentials in Academia and Healthcare, 1 ECTS

The course is intended for anyone interested in how ideas, expertise or research data can be transformed into practice and businesses. See course description here.

This course has been developed in collaboration with the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland, the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.

The course is free of charge. Open University students who want their study credit (ECTS) registered and/or need a transcript of records, pay e 15-euro study fee to the Open University at Åbo Akademi after compliting the course.

A MOOC with 6 interactive learning modules. The course includes inclusive education related topics to help HE faculty to build the soft skills and competences and integrate inclusive learning and teaching practices.

A MOOC in Information Technology in Swedish.

The courses are valued in ECTS credits. The course can be counted towards a degree at Åbo Akademi University, ÅAU (at least as an optional course).

If you want an official study attainment, contact the Open University (opu@abo.fi) after you have finished the course.

The study attainment is given in the form of certificates indicating the scope in study points or through registration in Peppi (applies to participants who are enrolled for undergraduate or doctoral studies at ÅAU or enrolled at the Open university).

Students at another Finnish higher education institution ask for a transcript of record from studinfo@abo.fi after the study attainment has been registered, which they send to their home university for credit transfer (according to the home university’s instructions). Students at another Finnish higher education institutions also pay the Open university fee for registration of credits, if the MOOC is not produced as part of a university cooperation between ÅAU and other universities.
