The Education Council
1) is responsible for realising the strategic objectives of Åbo Akademi University in education and for following the operational management model in educational activities
2) conducts external excellence reviews of degree programmes and other studies at Åbo Akademi University, apart from accreditations and corresponding externally initiated reviews
3) decides on the bases for educational and annual planning of teaching
4) decides on the faculty curricula (degree structures and learning objectives for degrees, minor subjects and elective studies as well as other degree provisions) for programmes leading to a Bachelor’s degree, both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree,or a Master’s degree
5) decides on department annual plans for programmes leading to a Bachelor’s degree, both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, or a Master’s degree
6) decides on the annual marketing and student recruitment plan
7) decides on the selection criteria for student admissions, taking into account any national agreements for specific fields of education, and proposes the number of students for admission to be adopted by the University Board
8) decides on guidelines and set objectives for results in overall student feedback (e.g. the Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey), and conducts analyses and reports to the University Board in accordance with the annual planning cycle at Åbo Akademi University
9) decides on common guidelines for open education
10) develops studies in continuous and lifelong learning, including compulsory
language and communication studies and open university studies
11) appoints members of the Examination Board of Åbo Akademi University, except student representatives, which are appointed by the Student Union
12) decides on awards for teachers and supervisors at Åbo Akademi University
