Theme: Accountability today and tomorrow
Accountability is a fundamental principle of all legal systems and encompasses a wide range of legal sub-concepts and practices in many legal disciplines and fields. Accountability can be approached from different perspectives, such as its origin, nature and form, actors, interrelationships, goals and consequences. During the 21st National Legal Studies Days, accountability issues are discussed in different legal disciplines and research areas. The Days invite critical discussion on the function and role of accountability in maintaining a society based on the rule of law, human rights, justice and sustainability.
Who is accountable to whom? What kind of act or omission triggers accountability requirements? How does accountability change depending on the differences between those claiming responsibility and those to be held responsible? What are the different legal concepts used to describe liability situations? Are there adequate accountability mechanisms to respond to technological developments such as artificial intelligence? Do we have adequate accountability tools to address the many challenges facing our societies, including the environmental crisis and biodiversity losses? Do we have too much or too little accountability?
What are the dynamics between judicial and non-judicial accountability mechanisms?
These are some of the key questions posed during the 21st National Jurisprudence Days. A non-exhaustive list of themes through which to discuss the issue of accountability includes:

- State and non-state responsibility
- Accountability and new technologies
- Conceptual issues around accountability
