Virology researchers gather in Turku on 19–20 March

The National Virology Days 2026 will be held in Turku on 19–20 March. The event brings together virology researchers, clinicians, and experts from across Finland to discuss current research in the field and strengthen cooperation.

Organised jointly by virology researchers from Åbo Akademi University, the University of Turku and the wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland, the National Virology Days 2026 will be the 45th time the event is organised and the eighth time it has been held in Turku. The event was first held in 1973.

The two-day event will bring together a total of approximately 145 participants and 18 exhibitors at the Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel. The program includes a comprehensive range of presentations on emerging viruses, virus biology, virus disease diagnostics, and virus vaccines. On Friday, the Young Virologist of 2026 award will be presented, and the award winner will give a speech. The award and smaller grants are granted by the Virustautien Tutkimussäätiö research foundation.

Virology Days offer researchers and experts an opportunity to share research results, discuss current phenomena, and strengthen cooperation in the field of Finnish virology research. Research will also be presented in the form of poster presentations, and prizes will be awarded to the best two posters, one of which will be voted for by the participants.

Virology Days will be preceded by the Hepatitis C Elimination Symposium on 18 March, which will examine issues related to the elimination of hepatitis C infection, particularly from the Finnish perspective, as well as share international experiences on the subject.
