The career follow-up survey provides important insights into life after graduation
What are graduates of Åbo Akademi University doing a few years after graduation? How satisfied are they with their education, and how well have their studies prepared them for working life? The career follow-up survey provides important information on how our degree programmes work in practice and what working life is like for our graduates.
This year’s career follow-up survey begins on 1 October and runs until 8 December 2026. The survey is sent out nationally to holders of Master’s degrees, pharmacists and early years educators who graduated in 2021, as well as to those who obtained a doctoral degree in 2023.
Åbo Akademi University also conducts its own follow-up survey of those who graduated a year ago with a Master’s, pharmacy or early childhood education degree. This survey is sent out by email only.
An increasing number of alumni are being reached via email
A positive development is that we are now reaching significantly more people via Åbo Akademi University’s alumni register. This year, we have email addresses for around 70 per cent of the target group. Previously, the corresponding figure was below 50 per cent, and a few years ago it stood at only around 15 per cent.
The national career follow-up survey is sent both by email and by post to home addresses. Those who have not responded will receive a reminder by post in early November.
Every response is valuable. The results are used, amongst other things, to develop degree programmes and to provide an overview of the employment situation of Åbo Akademi University graduates. The response rate is also important for Åbo Akademi University: under the current funding model, 2 per cent of the university’s funding is allocated based on this survey. Each response submitted to the national career survey can be worth up to 5,000 euros in funding.

Results from the national survey are also available in the Education Administration’s statistics service, Vipunen. Material dating back to the survey conducted in 2017 can be found there.
All the results can be found on the ‘Career Monitoring’ page. Under the heading ‘Visualizations’, you can choose to view figures for Master’s graduates and PhD graduates presented in graphs.
The interface may seem a little overwhelming at first, but by filtering and selecting different views, it quickly becomes a useful tool.
