Rector’s decision in conflict of interest case at Åbo Akademi University after internal investigation
Åbo Akademi University’s Board has on 28 April reviewed an investigation by the university’s internal auditor into suspicions of conflict of interest in connection with an appointment at the university.
In the investigation, the internal auditor found that former Rector Mikael Lindfelt was biased in regard to the appointment.
Acting Rector Gunilla Widén has, based on the report’s recommendations, assessed what possible measures may be taken.
As Mikael Lindfelt resigned, at his own request, from the post of Rector on 4 April 2025, the internal auditor considered that there were no longer grounds for the board to examine whether his actions could have constituted an admissible basis for removal from the post of Rector.
Widen’s ruling is that, since Lindfelt no longer holds the post of Rector, there are no grounds for further action.
