Dag Wallgren new Chair of the Board of Åbo Akademi University

The newly elected Board of Åbo Akademi University held its inaugural meeting on 18 January 2023. The Board appointed Dag Wallgren as Chair and Anna Lindén as Vice Chair.

Dag Wallgren is the former CEO of the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS), where he also was Finance Director. Wallgren has also worked as Managing Director of the investment company Kelonia and has held a number of significant positions of trust, including Chair of the Board of Aktia Bank.

“Education and research are fundamental building blocks for the development of prosperity in Finland. For the Finnish-Swedish population, Åbo Akademi is a nationally crucial educational institution with internationally recognised and successful research. I look forward to working to strengthen and secure the long-term operating conditions of Åbo Akademi and thereby support competitive quality education,” says Wallgren.

Anna Lindén has a background as a business executive and board professional. She has had a long career at Nokia, where she, among other things, was operational manager of Nokia’s Mobile Networks Business Group. Today, Lindén serves, among other things, as Chair of the Board of Innofactor, a provider of digitalisation and cloud solutions in the Nordic region.

Other external board members are Peter Essen and Gunvor Kronman. Internal board members are Janne Elo, Ria Heilä-Ylikallio, Dan Holm, Fanny Jonasson, Kim Wikström and Erik Östman. The term of office is two years.

The Board is the highest decision-making body of the University. According to the Universities Act, the Board decides, among other things, on the central objectives of the university operations and finances.
