After a successful CHARM conference at Åbo Akademi University
This year, it was Åbo Akademi University’s turn to host the CHARM conference. The theme of the conference was European universities alliances, democratic values and societal resilience, a perfect choice for the host university.
The conference was held in Astra on Wednesday 14 October 2026. Our guests were very impressed with both the facilities and the local arrangements. A big thank you to everyone who in one way or another worked for the conference and helped make it a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Rector Gunilla Widén welcomed the conference participants and emphasised the importance of university collaborations in a time and world that makes their activities increasingly challenging. Professor Kimmo Grönlund gave the conference’s keynote speech and presented the responsibility of universities not only as institutions that manage and teach democratic values, but also as active participants in the world around them.
External participants include Minister for Education Anders Adlercreutz, who participated in a panel session on the theme From Mobility to Democratic resilience: The Role of European University alliances, which is now also available on YouTube.
