- early years, K–6, content-specific teaching from grade 7 onwards
- building linguistic continuity and progression between educational stages
- development of bi- and multilingual literacies
- scaffolding for reading and writing content in bi- and multilingual education
2. Linguistic diversity in educational contexts
- practices for language-aware teaching and linguistically sensitive teaching
- emerging bi- and multilingualism
- special educational needs in relation to bi- and multilingual education
- learning effects of the presence of dominant and non-dominant languages in bi- and multilingual programmes
- evaluation of language and content learning and implications for teaching strategies
3. Preparing teachers for equity in linguistically diverse operational cultures
- teaching with a dual focus on developing the immersion and target language(s) as well as providing access to content
- developing teacher sensitivity towards linguistic diversity
- pre-service and in-service education for continued professional development
