Marine and terrestrial spatial ecology
The archipelago areas of Åland Islands and the Archipelago Sea are important study areas in both terrestrial and marine spatial ecology. Our research span both terrestrial vascular plants, birds, seagrass meadows and rocky shore algal communities in different archipelago zones. This research form an important foundation for marine spatial planning and management of species and habitats.
The flora and the bird fauna in the archipelago of southwestern Finland
Through re-inventories of the birds and plants on the islands, it is possible to study how the plant and bird communities have changed over time.
Seagrass ecology
Eelgrass meadows are both valuable and threathened. If we loose eelgrass we loose biodiversity and functions.

A healthy marine nature with maintained nature values is a prerequisite for utilizing goods and services provided by the sea also in the future.
