The Library Welcomes New Students
Åbo Akademi University Library plays an active role in welcoming new students.
During orientation week, new students were introduced to the library through an interactive tour in ThingLink. The tour, which was redesigned last year following positive experiences, guides students through the basics of using the library, activating their library card via the Tuudo app, and discovering the wide range of services the library offers. Most importantly, we want everyone to feel welcome at the library.
The library also provides services to students of Novia University of Applied Sciences in Turku. We are delighted to see a growing number of Novia students on campus and closer to the library, following the relocation of the bioeconomy programmes from Raseborg to Turku and the opening of the fully renovated campus building at Biskopsgatan 8.
The library also participated in Novia’s Freshers’ Fair, where we had the opportunity to meet many new students.
Students at the University of Turku also form an important user group, and the library has provided them with information on how to borrow books from the Åbo Akademi University Library.
Teaching in critical literacy, source criticism and information retrieval continues throughout students’ studies. The library offers both self-study materials and Moodle courses on these topics. In addition, library staff contribute directly to teaching, including the course Academic Study Skills and information literacy instruction at bachelor’s level.
