Reading rooms

All three libraries (ASA, Arken, and Academill) offer quiet spaces where you can study in a pleasant environment.

  • The ASA Library and the Library in Arken have silent reading rooms.
  • Arken and Academill in Vaasa have reading areas spread throughout different parts of the building.

Important to know:

  • Reading spaces cannot be reserved.
  • No food is allowed in the reading rooms.
  • You may use a laptop, but type quietly – avoid pounding on the keys.
Lockers

At our service points, there are lockers where you can store books and other items during the day.
Remember to empty the locker before you go home.

Are you working on your master’s thesis or diploma work?
Then you can borrow a special “thesis locker” at the library in Arken.
Feel free to ask the staff — we’re happy to help!

Computers, networks and other equipment

Computers

All library service points have desktop computers available for students and staff at Åbo Akademi and Novia (Turku).
At the ASA Library and Arken, there are also a few “standing computers”. These are intended for quick information searches and for accessing Åbo Akademi’s and Novia’s e-resources. These computers are open to all library visitors.

Wireless Network

You can use the following networks at the library:

  • For students and staff:
    • Eduroam
    • Åbo Akademi Staff

Instructions for connecting to the network are available on the intranet.

  • For others:
    • Guest network (contact customer service if you need help logging in)

Headsets
You can borrow headsets at the service points in ASA and Arken.

Print, copy and scan

Need to print, copy, or scan?

All library service points have multifunction printers that you can use for:

  • Printing
  • Copying
  • Scanning

You can print in both A4 and A3 formats, in color or grayscale – depending on the printer.

Printer locations:

  • Arken Library: Humbug
  • ASA Library: Karusell
  • Academill Library: Trym

Did you know?

You don’t need to use an ÅAU computer to print!
Go to print.abo.fi from your own computer or mobile device and upload a PDF file.

Note:Color printing is not available via print.abo.fi.

Print quota

If your quota runs out, you can purchase more via Åbo Akademi’s online store.
Instructions and more information about printing can be found on the intranet.

Who can do what?

Students and staff at Åbo Akademi:

  • Print, copy, and scan
  • Prints and copies are deducted from the print quota

Students and staff at Novia:

  • Print and scan
  • Prints are deducted from the print quota
  • Copying is not included in the quota

Other visitors:

  • Copy (according to price list)
  • Scan for free
Scanning service (temporarily closed)

The library offers a digitisation service using the ArchivePro camera scanner. In addition to standard formats, we can scan materials that are otherwise difficult to digitise with conventional equipment, such as large-format items – up to A1 – and bound or fragile materials.
ArchivePro is especially well-suited for larger volumes of material, such as archival series. The image quality meets the standards of the National Archives for long-term digital preservation.
The scanning service is subject to a fee, as larger scanning projects are handled by our hourly staff in collaboration with the archivists at the Library. Larger digitisation projects can be planned in the DigiStudio, for example as part of a research project.
Feel free to contact us with questions or project ideas by emailing library@abo.fi – we’ll help you assess your needs and schedule.
