
Book donations
If you would like to donate material to the Åbo Akademi University Library, please first familiarize yourself with the Library’s Donations Policy and then contact a member of the Library staff: Chief Librarian Yrsa Neuman regarding books, and Linda Filppula regarding manuscripts and photographs.
Donations Policy
Åbo Akademi University Library is an academic library that primarily accepts donations supporting the research, teaching, and studies conducted at Åbo Akademi University. In its role as an unofficial national library for Swedish-speaking Finland, the Library accepts donations of Finland-Swedish printed material as well as manuscripts and photographs.
With regard to foreign-language literature, the condition is that the books must not already be part of the Library’s collections, must be in their original language, and must be of lasting value. Donations of digital material are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The following categories are not accepted:
- dirty, damaged, or broken material
- school textbooks, hymnbooks, Bibles, and devotional literature
- foreign encyclopedias, reference works, dictionaries, and manuals
- foreign serial publications
Please note: Åbo Akademi University Library does not accept book donations that are subject to conditions. The Library reserves the right to deal with donated material at its own discretion. Deposits of material are generally not accepted. Transportation of donated material to the Library is the responsibility of the donor.
