Åbo Akademi University organizes events for internationals students a few times per year focusing on studies, career and life in Finland.
During Autumn 2023, the Talent Boost team at Åbo Akademi University organizes two events:
- In Turku, on the 4th of October at 12:00-15:00. The event takes place in Arken, Åbo
- In Vaasa, on the 10th of October at 12:00-15:00. The event takes place at Academill, Vaasa
At the events the students have the chance to get feedback on their CV and to take a CV photo, to meet regional stakeholders and international alumni and to receive guidance on questions related to studies, career and life in Finland.
No registration needed for the event, but in case you wish to take part in the “alumni coffee” in Turku, you need to register at the Talent Boost stand at pop-up event as places are limited. Read more about each event in the section below.

- Pop-up event in Arken at Åbo Akademi University, Turku on the 4th of October at 12:00-15:00 on the theme living, studying and working in Turku region
- Students can take a new CV photo, get feedback on CV or Cover Letter, and ask questions related to living, studying and working in Turku
- Several regional stakeholders with expertise in different topics will be attending, among others International House Turku (life in Turku, soft-landing services etc), Turku Business Region (entrepreneurship), Mieli (wellbeing), Red-Cross and Unicef (volunteering and work possibilities), Turku työväenopisto (past-time activities).
- Coffee with international alumni students: Are you interested in meeting international ÅAU alumni students to hear about their experiences of entering the job market and building their life in Finland? From 13:00-15:00 students can meet and talk to our international alumni students. NB! Places are limited, you register for the alumni coffee at the pop-up event.
Jasmin Slimani is a University Teacher at ÅAU. She graduated from the master’s program Social Exclusion in 2021, where she did her thesis in a non-traditional matter and partially in the form of a podcast series. She has worked as a Talent Boost project assistant and in the local bookstore, Akateeminen Kirjakauppa. She is also active in the anti-racist collective Good Hair Day, which is an AfroFinnish collective, aspiring to give representation, empowerment and space for AfroFinnishness.
Muhaimin Karim is a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Information Studies, Åbo Akademi. After completing a Master’s degree in information and Knowledge Management, Muhaimin has been working as a Doctoral Researcher since 2016 at the same department. Muhaimin has focused his research largely on Information and Media Literacy, Information Behaviour and Practices, Access and Barriers to Information, Information service policy designing, and youth participation. His own doctoral dissertation focuses on the information-seeking behaviour and practices of the young population and designing youth-centric information services.
Tanwir Ahmad completed a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Software Engineering at Åbo Akademi University. Currently, he is working as a post-doctoral researcher at the university. His research focuses on testing and the security of cyber-physical systems. His work encompasses a wide range of topics, from exploratory performance testing to early intrusion detection using deep learning. Over the years, he has contributed to the development of model-based and AI-driven validation and verification methods, addressing both functional and non-functional aspects of software systems.
Khushal Naik has graduated as Master of Arts in Social Exclusion at Åbo Akademi University. He is currently a Doctoral Researcher in the Study of Religions, and his research focuses on migration policy discourse within and between the EU and AU. In addition to his research, he also teaches courses in the Social Exclusion MA and in the Study of Religions. He is also currently the chair of the Doctoral Researcher Association at Åbo Akademi (Dåcta) and a duty member of the Faculty Board of FHPT. Prior to the PhD, he worked as a Project Assistant where he was primarily responsible for coordination and marketing.

- All international students (master’s, exchange and PhD) at ÅAU are welcomed to join
- Students can take a new CV photo, get feedback on CV or Cover Letter, and ask questions related to living, studying and working in the Vaasa region
- Several regional stakeholders with expertise in different topics will be attending, among others ÅAU Talent Boost team and Career services, Welcome Office in Vaasa, Kela, Red Cross, Language Center at ÅAU and Familia.
