Students at Åbo Akademi University Are the Second Most Satisfied in Finland with their University Studies
Students at Åbo Akademi University give their education high marks. Ninety‑seven percent of those completing a bachelor’s degree responded to The Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey (Kandipalaute), whose results place ÅAU second among all 13 universities in Finland in terms of providing a good study experience.
The responses show that Åbo Akademi University’s small size and close interaction between students and staff are clear strengths. The university’s average score is 5 per cent higher than the national average for these statements “I am satisfied with my studies” and “I have been satisfied with the interaction with the teaching staff.” Åbo Akademi University also exceeds the national average in areas related to the achievement of educational goals, the development of students’ skills, and the quality of teaching.
According to the agreement with the Ministry of Education and Culture for 2025–2029, more than 90 percent of students should rate their study experience as good. Several programmes at Åbo Akademi University already meet this target.
Measures to Strengthen the Study Experience
At the same time, the results highlight a key area for development: continuing to invest in diverse, mandatory pedagogical and digital competence development for teachers.
To further improve outcomes, Åbo Akademi University is implementing several additional measures. These include strengthening study support and teaching through joint thesis seminars, proactive feedback, and coordinated deadlines. A stronger sense of community is fostered through small‑group work, while a clearer working‑life perspective brings studies closer to professional practice. Support for students is also ensured through regular meetings with academic advisors.
