International conference on renewable resources and biorefineries to be held in June
The International Conference on Renewable Resources and Biorefineries (RRB) will be held in Turku from June 2 to 4, 2025. The RRB Conference is known as one of the most prominent forums in the fields of bioeconomy and green chemistry, and it continues to foster innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among academic researchers, industrial leaders, and venture capital experts from around the world.
The international RRB Conference is organized every other year in Belgium and in alternate years in other European countries. The 21st RRB Conference in 2025 brings the spotlight to Finland, a country known for its commitment to sustainability and green innovation.
This year’s conference is organized from June 2 to 4 in Turku through close collaboration between the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, and Ghent University.
Over the course of three days, approximately 250 specialists from diverse sectors will gather to discuss cutting-edge advances and enduring challenges in the field.
The Mayor of Turku Minna Arve, and the vice rectors of both universities, Pia Seppänen (UTU) and Reko Leino (ÅAU) will deliver the opening words.
The conference will feature sessions on a wide range of timely topics, including biorefineries, biomass pretreatment, biobased chemicals and materials, sustainability assessments, algal technologies and marine applications, wood chemistry, thermochemical processes, and fermentation technology.
“It is an honour to welcome the RRB Conference to Turku. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our research and regional efforts for sustainable development, while also strengthening collaboration across sectors and national borders. We look forward to fruitful discussions, new ideas, and partnerships that can contribute to a more sustainable world,” says Professor Henrik Grénman from Åbo Akademi University.
“RRB2025 promises a dynamic platform for dialogue and development, where academic excellence meets industrial relevance and entrepreneurial vision. Participants can expect inspiring keynote lectures, technical sessions, poster presentations, and valuable networking opportunities in a city that beautifully blends scientific heritage with Nordic innovation,” says Professor Yagut Allahverdiyeva-Rinne from the University of Turku.
The 2025 RRB Conference is organized by dedicated local organizing committee, led by Professor Henrik Grénman from Åbo Akademi University and Professor Yagut Allahverdiyeva-Rinne from the University of Turku. Professor Christian Stevens (Ghent University) serves as Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
