When and where is the Summer School held?  

The Summer School is held from June 20 to June 22 in the ASA-building on Åbo Akademi University’s campus (Vänrikinkatu 3, 20500 Turku, Finland).  

Who are the organizers of the Summer School? 

The Summer School in Deliberative Democracy and Public Opinion is organized by the Social Science Research Institute at Åbo Akademi University.  

What does the Summer School consist of?  

The Summer School consists of keynote presentations from scholars in the field of deliberative democracy and public opinion, a roundtable talk concerning the Future of Deliberative Democracy, and paper sessions where doctoral candidates will present their papers to a group of discussants.  

How do I register for the Summer School?

If I am attending remotely, on which platform is the Summer School held?  

The Summer School will be held on Zoom for those who are attending remotely. You can follow the Keynote lectures on Monday June 20 and the Roundtable talk on Tuesday June 21 via our Zoom Webinar:

How do I travel to Turku?  

You can travel to Turku by plane to Turku Airport, with a stopover at Helsinki Airport, or with train or bus to Turku from Helsinki Airport. You can find more information about the travel routes on the Practical Information page 

Where can I stay in Turku?  

You can find recommendations on accommodation here. Participants in the Summer School can get a reduced price at Centro Hotel, Scandic Julia, and Sokos Hotel.  

How does the Paper Sessions work?  

The paper sessions are a chance for participants to discuss their paper and receive feedback from more senior scholars and peers. The Paper Sessions will take place in the Social Science Research Institute’s brand-new deliberation laboratories. Every presenter will have 30 min to present and get feedback on their paper from senior scholars and peers.
