The studies have definitely expanded my thinking and widened my capacity to understand complex global issues and legal problems.

Why I chose this programme: Before applying to the Master’s Degree Programme in International Human Rights Law at Åbo Akademi University, I had for some years volunteered for an organization addressing topical social problems. After completing my previous degree in business law, I learned about the programme and realised it would provide me with the professional competence I needed, and the possibility to go deeper into the issues I actually desired to have a career in. I was convinced to apply by the international references and the reputation the Institute for Human Rights holds, which have proven to be a helpful and a concrete asset to the students during the studies and, arguably, in the future as well.
The studies: The studies have definitely expanded my thinking and widened my capacity to understand complex global issues and legal problems. I have been challenged and stretched while at the same time provided with an environment where there is also room for mistakes, learning and improving. There are always possibilities to go deeper and further, if that is what one is after. The friendly community consisting of both degree students and international students participating the same classes has been an inspirational learning environment and definitely one of the personal highlights for me.
Additional comments: For anyone wanting to build a foundation in international law and human rights, I highly recommend this programme. I came in with great expectations, which have been met and exceeded. Studying at the Master’s programme has awakened in me even greater appreciation for the academia and its relevance for the work on the field.
