Exhibition: 40 000+

Exhibition: 40 000+

Fri 28.5.2021–Sat 30.4.2022

What is life like in the archipelago? Which small but important organisms live on the seabed? How can you look to the well-being of the sea? The exhibition 40 000+ provides an opportunity to experience up close the archipelago’s sensitive and beautiful nature and presents the magical world in an exciting way. The archipelago is home to humans and animals by the sea.

Through the exhibition 40 000+ Forum Marinum combines maritime and marine themes with the marine environment and the archipelago in a way that takes both the inhabitants’ and the surroundings’ perspectives into account.

The exhibition’s partners are Visit Turku, Visit Pargas, Visit Kimitoön, Visit Naantali, Metsähallitus, Turku University, Åbo Akademi University, Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association, John Nurminen Foundation, Northern Growth Zone, Turun suomalaisen yhteiskoulun lukio and Ruissalo Nature School.

The exhibition is part of the City of Turku’s Maritime Centre –project, the purpose of which is to strengthen Turku as a maritime city. The close collaboration between the City of Turku and Forum Marinum provides an even larger, more experiential maritime centre, where the beautiful archipelago is within reach. The exhibition has been realized as part of the City of Turku’s Archipelago Access –project, which has received funding from the EU’s Central Baltic Interreg (2014-2020) -program.

During the exhibition, you can take part in the “From word to deeds and from deeds to words” corner, which is part of the research at Åbo Akademi University, where you have the opportunity to share your observations and memories of the archipelago, the Baltic Sea and its shores.

Listen below where exhibition planner Hanna Niittymäki, docent Mia Rönkä and Associate Professor Christoffer Boström discuss (in Finnish) about the themes of the exhibition.
