9th Annual Minority Seminar

Many Gazes of Law: Plurality and Ordering

Organised by Minority Research in collaboration with the Åbo Akademi University Law School

Date: April 11th 2024
Time: 9:30-17:30
Place: Auditorium Armfelt, Arken, Åbo Akademi University, Tehtaankatu 2, 20500 Turku and Zoom

The 9th Annual Minority Seminar celebrates the launch of Åbo Akademi Law School by critically engaging with law manifesting itself in various forms and functions, and at various levels of social reality. The seminar will approach sources, subjects and practices of law from five perspectives: Law as rights; Law as legal profession; Law as jurisprudence; Law as education; and Law as justice. We will question the gaze of contemporary law: whose is it, what does it see and how does it order legal practice? Whose voice is amplified and who is silenced? What happens when we turn the gaze back on law? What are the possibilities of seeing and therefore thinking and acting otherwise – should we and how so –  in order to include a plurality of voices and positionalities, including those who are differently minoritized?

In addition to the annual seminar, a PhD workshop will take place on April 12th. More info regarding this will be published later.
