What is the future of democracy? How could we rejuvenate democratic institutions so that they would better meet current democratic challenges? How will the change in the liberal international order affect world politics?
The Annual Conference of the Finnish Political Science Association 2021 will be hosted by Åbo Akademi University on 10–12 May 2021. The conference will be held in a virtual format. We wish to provide an opportunity for public discourse and the dissemination of latest research results despite the pandemic situation.
The theme of this year’s conference is ”Democracy’s Crisis and Future”. Democratic dissatisfaction has been growing by many accounts. Transgressions of democratic norms have also become increasingly commonplace, even in established democracies. The liberal international order appears challenged. On the other hand, new forms of political participation have been emerging in many countries.
Call for workshops
We invite panels and workshops from all fields of political research, and particularly welcome proposals that would intersect the boundaries of individual research projects and universities.
Workshop proposals should include the name of the workshop, a short abstract (max. 200 words), the workshop language(s) (Finnish/Swedish/English) and the contact details of the workshop leader(s). All the workshops should have at least two leaders to facilitate their functioning in the virtual format. We hope that it is possible to participate in the majority of the panels regardless of the panel’s language.
Please submit your proposal by 31 January 2021 to the conference secretary Janette Huttunen at email@example.com.
