The project of a faired bike

The picture above is taken from an advertisment, except for the rightmost vehicle. I have added the faired bike.

1 Idea for a faired trike

A faired bike is what I have been thinking of for a long time. That is because the weather in Scandinavia is not always encouraging to use open bikes. Of course there is a summer also here, but it is shorter than in central Europe.

One concept for a faired bike is to use the second concept, B-line, but with two rear wheels . This bike reminds of the Jouta, but the line is more flat. It will probably give a safer run at higher speed.

2.2 My next project

However, you saw the word probably underscored in the past paragraph. There are a lot of unknown factors in the model above. Therefore I will first try another concept.

Keep it as simple as possible, but not simplier
       Albert Einstein

I will first try to make a more simple model, simple in the following senses:

  • Only one wheel for steering
  • Only one wheel for driving
  • No tilting
So this bike has two front wheels, the left one is driving. The rear wheel is steering. I expect that this model will work quite well, but for very high speeds it is hard to say how it will behave. Anyway, I think it will be useful enough to be worth the effort to build it.

One thing that is bothering me is again the rear wheel and the steering angle. Based on some small models I think that a 45o angle and a small positive trail will work best. If you have opinions or knowledge in this case, please let me know.
